Meet your tour leader in Naples at 11:30am and start your adventure toward the South of Italy. If you depart from Florence or Rome our team can help you organize the transport. Mingle with the other travelers and start getting excited about the sites, the delicious food, and the wonderful landscape which will be part of the 4-day Amalfi coast tour.
After less than 1hr ride we will reach our first stop Pompeii, destroyed and buried under 4 to 6m of ashes and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 but still preserved throughout all these centuries. During the journey, your IOABT tour leader will provide you with the info about the area, the site, the Romans and how they used to live, and finally facts about the culture that only a local guide would know. Have lunch with a mouth-watering Caprese salad and lemon granita before you enter the site where you will have two hours of free time to explore the ruins at your own pace or with a local tour guide. In the afternoon continue the trip along the coast with amazing views of the Gulf of Naples towards Sorrento.
Check in to your accommodation, rest some time, and meet back with your guide to head down to Sorrento for an orientation walk through the hidden and narrow streets of the old center crowed of ceramic, linen clothes, shoes, leather bags, sandals, and limoncello shops. Let yourself be overwhelmed by the smiling faces of the Southern people and their products. End the walk on a beautiful terrace and enjoy the sunset over Sorrento bay. In the evening enjoy an optional yummy 4-course dinner based on some delicious seafood handmade pasta or gnocchi and traditional food of the area in a local restaurant in Sorrento. After dinner, end the day by the beach next to the old marina with a drink in your hand while enjoying the Gulf of Naples at night.
Enjoy your complete free day to relax on the beach and do some shopping in Sorrento. Meet the group and the tour leader in the afternoon and head all together to a spectacular and famous natural pool of emerald water set among the ancient Roman ruins with coastal views to enjoy the sunset, the last swim of the day and an drink. Spend the evening as you prefer.
On your free day ask our team about for all the amazing optional activities you can do including a trip to the famous Capri island for a visit to Anacapri, where you can take the chairlift up to the top of Mt. Solaro for a breathtaking 360-degree view of the island, a visit to the Blue Grotto with fantastic crystal blue colors, explore Capri town and finally relax on the beach. Back to the camping village in the afternoon.
Our third day is all for the Amalfi coast and its wonders. The panorama from the narrow and windy road of the Amalfi coast will be terrific. During the journey to Amalfi, we will pass by the Islands of Galli, the fishing villages of Furore and Praiano, famous for their crystal-clear seas, the encompassing views, and its cathedral located 365m above sea level.
We will stop in the town of Amalfi for about 2hrs to allow you to discover the town at your own peace and its famous cathedral, lie down at the beach and have a bite at one of the typical shops selling fresh local food. We will board again after lunch for the splendid town of Positano with its cascade of colorful houses, clinging magically to earth. Its pastel buildings form a vertical wonderland. Narrow, threadlike streets provide boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and bars. In Positano we will stay 3hrs to allow you to relax on the beach, go for a swim and discover this little gem of the Amalfi coast.
On our last night together if you are up for some party, we have plenty of local bars in town to go to for drinks, dancing, and for the brave ones even karaoke.
Our private bus will come to pick us up from the accommodation in the morning. You can’t leave the South of Italy without taking at least a small peek at Naples, home of Italian pizza and Italian customs. We will stop in one of the areas of Naples famous for its shopping and monuments. Your tour leader will take you for an orientation walk and will show you the main places of interest including San Carlo theatre, Plebiscite square, Umberto I ‘s gallery, the old city center, the Spanish quarters home of Maradona football player, and lots more. And for the perfect conclusion of 4 wonderful days together, we will end in style with a famous Neapolitan pizza with buffalo mozzarella.
Continue your adventure on our 7-day Discovery Sicily by taking the ferry from Naples or taking a train to Florence for ” the Best of Tuscany “.
